after-the-squee squee

On March 20, I met Elliott Yamin.

Anyone who knew me during last year's American Idol through the summer knows this was a huge deal. Come on, I was O-B-S-E-S-S-E-D with the man. Kinda scary how much I invested into him. I think part of it was because I related a lot to his journey and wanted someone's life to be able to change if mine currently couldn't. Make sense at all?

Well, from March-July, I was just crazy. Then things started to happen among boards, his behavior during tours with his new gf, etc. If you want to keep some level of sanity during fandom, don't go on boards. I don't regret becoming an active Yaminion at all because I've met (and partied with) some of the most awesome people I could ever meet. Those people make my life all the more fun every day, and I just love them. Still, I can't go crazy for any other star....it's just not worth it. Boards are fun, but it's good to take a healthy approach. I really took some things way too seriously. Now, I DON'T take Elliott's winter behavior lightly, but I'm willing to let bygones be bygones. He was being influenced by some really unsavory people, but he's now showing that he's taking his career seriously. No one will ever know the full story.

So, crypticness aside, I was surprised when I realized just how much I wanted to go to the Virgin signing in NYC on his CD release day. Well, when else would I have the chance?? I started wondering if I was a hypocrite, but I'm over that. I still enjoy him, and there's nothing wrong with that. And meeting him was just the biggest blur of my life. He looked and acted great, and it was wonderful to be able to touch him and get a silly picture. What threw me was how much I was shaking after the encounter.

I don't get shaky like that, like ever! I have met my fair share of celebrities, and of course some jitters and giddy nervousness have come into play....but very rarely do I actually have a physical reaction! I believe that Alan Cumming might have caused a few, but other than that...not really! Maybe Adam Busch. Yeah, I can see that. After meeting Elliott Yamin, I was shaking like a leaf. I don't understand it! I lost my squee way back in August! Hell, I might have lost it not too long after the concert (where I was practically hyperventilating). What about this man makes me physically react like that??

I don't have any answers. I can't even begin to analyze. I've stood in front of Matthew Broderick and Mark Ruffalo with only a case of the giggles afterwards. Don't get me wrong, I was totally cool with Elliott until I got on the escalator. It was the weirdest thing ever. I was fine a couple hours later and have been rather blase about the whole thing since. But when I'm in front of the man....holy crap. And just over a year ago, he could have been someone I worked with. It's so funny how life works sometimes.
